Brief description

Iris ter Schiphorst's "KONZEPTE zu FLÄCHE(N)" is a detailed conceptual piece that radically questions the concepts of music as a sound phenomenon, composition/work, performance practice/concert practice and common rehearsal practice and explores new horizons in line with the definition of "conceptual art" from the visual arts. A work that potentially conveys completely new experiences to the audience, the choir and the conductor.

Notation

Detailed text on conceptual art in general and the work in particular, with many suggestions that go far beyond the work itself. In addition, very clear working instructions and examples.

Reviews

NMZ, 12/2017 Egbert Hiller

With 'Konzepte für Fläche(n)', composer Iris ter Schiphorst created an experimental arrangement from which each choir was allowed to develop its very own ideas: The spectrum of performances ranged from the vivid confrontation of heterogeneous lifestyles and musical worlds (LJC Saxony-Anhalt) to the striking flmical documentation of the working process (LJC Brandenburg); and from the powerful, playful performance between self-assertion and social interaction (LJC Baden-Württemberg) to introverted self-exploration, which surprisingly culminated in an "ensemble art manifesto" (LJC Saar): "Ensemble art belongs to the ensemble" was the last of the eleven core sentences of this manifesto, which can also be understood as an insistence on the individuality of the respective formation.

Why I don't go to the presentation of the New Music Database

.... No, I don't necessarily want to deal with these delicacies of the vocal avant-garde. I'd rather rave about the atmosphere of this festival, which I find extremely relaxed and laid-back. Like in this concert just now (concert 2, Saxony-Anhalt and Brandenburg state youth choirs), that was real vibes! That was music education par excellence, if you ask me! The whole congress family discussed the meaningfulness of (conceptual) music. ...this discussion, definitely triggered by Iris ter Schiphorst's work (or rather play, as she would like it to be understood) KONZEPTE zu FLÄCHE(N), was really productive.
