Sarah Hornsby, flute and Daniel Göritz, electric guitar

Performance material available from Boosey & Hawkes

'My Sweet Latin Lover' is an ironic and tender homage to love - and its pitfalls..." I.t.S.

A demo CD of the complete work is available for study purposes from Boosey & Hawkes, Berlin.

Note:
This version is an arrangement of the original version for amplified flute + effects, 5 electric guitars, sample keyboard and 2 percussion instruments, which was performed in Munich as part of Musica viva on 7.6.2002 by Sarah Hornsby (flute), Thomas Hell (keyboard), Percussion Art Quartett and the electric guitar quintet 'Go Guitars'.
It owes its existence to Daniel Göritz and Sarah Hornsby.

Performance notes

Both instruments should be amplified appropriately for the space. The flautist works best with a contact microphone directly on the flute and a second stand microphone for the vocal passages. The flautist also needs an effects unit (e.g. guitar effects pedal) with a foot switch and a volume pedal. The guitarist also needs a multi-effects pedal with a volume pedal, or the individual components for the 3 basic sounds: clean, distortion and wah.
The setup for the flute outlined below is an ideal solution, but slightly different variations may also be possible - for example, if the vocal passages are sufficiently intelligible, they can also be transmitted directly with the flute contact microphone and the stand microphone can be dispensed with. The electric guitar can either be mixed together with the flute for the sound reinforcement in the hall or only be heard directly on stage from a compact amplifier.

Effect Settings Flute

= pitch shift 1 octave lower (+ approx. 30 cent higher detuned) + little distortion
= Pitchshift a minor second higher (+ approx. 20 cent higher detuned)
= pitchshift a small second lower (+ approx. 10 cent higher detuned)
= pitch shift 1 octave lower
= pitch shift 1 octave lower (+ approx. 20 cent lower detuned) + chorus (approx. 50 % speed, approx. 33 % depth)

Effect settings electric guitar

= Clean (possibly with a little chorus)
= Wah-wah (wide frequency response)
= Distortion (can be controlled live)
= Pitch shift 1 octave lower (the 3 basic sounds can also be used with variations and mixes
among each other)
